Access to Granite Gorge
One of the Tablelands most unusual and fascinating attractions lies 12 kms from Mareeba, a small town located approximately 60 kms away from Cairns on the Kuranda road.
To reach Granite Gorge Nature Park, take the Bruce Highway (#1) and drive north from Cairns towards Port Douglas until you see a road-sign pointing left for Kuranda. Turn left from Bruce Highway and follow the Kennedy Highway past Kuranda which will lead you to Mareeba. Upon entering Mareeba via the Kennedy Highway, keep driving through the town and turn left at the first roundabout and again left at the second roundabout into Chewko Road. Follow Chewko Road out of Mareeba for 7 km to a well signposted turn-off on the right. The entrance is a further 5 km along the side of a picturesque road, take left when the short gravel road forks into two.
Entry Fee
A minimal entry fee is asked to be paid at the entrance. It is used to help maintain the park and its facilities.

What to bring
When planning your visit to Granite Gorge, remember to bring sun cream to protect yourself against strong sun rays in the summer period (November - March).
It is a fantastic place to immerse yourself in the cool waters of Granite Creek, so don't forget to bring your bathing suit and a towel.
Your day will not be complete without hand feeding the abundant Mareeba Rock Wallabies. It is not good for them to consume bread and crackers, so if you want to get close to them bring some rolled oats or you can buy wallaby food for just 1 dollar.
If you don't mind walking and are planning to spend some time exploring the beautiful rock formations of the gorge, remember to wear sensible walking shoes.
